The aim of this program is to promote research into the mechanisms and factors involved in the onset and progression of cardiac arrhythmias, as well as their treatment, prevention, and strategies to mitigate their harmful effects.
Sudden cardiac death caused by ventricular tachycardia and fibrillation, atrial fibrillation, bradycardia, and other types of arrhythmias affect millions of individuals worldwide and are a major cause of global morbidity and mortality.
The program seeks to develop high-impact, collaborative research projects by fostering interaction among CIBERCV's basic, clinical, and epidemiological research groups, other CIBER knowledge areas, and national and international centers of excellence.
The program’s research lines will focus on the following areas:
1. Cardiomyopathy and atrial arrhythmias
2. Ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death
3. Implantable devices and invasive treatment of cardiac arrhythmias
4. Non-invasive treatments, epidemiology, and risk factors for arrhythmias
5. Experimental cardiac electrophysiology
